Lutein is a carotenoid which is found in abundance in fruit and vegetables and is also found in the marigold plant. It has been identified as being one of the carotenoids present in macular pigment. It also helps support antioxidant activity. Lutein is the primary carotenoid found in the central part of the retina called the macula. It helps to protect the retina of the eye from sunlight.
