Ferabol is a proprietary form of ferric iron (Fe+++) bound with a chemically modified protein (casein) in a process called succinylation, which dramatically stabilizes the complex. This process is responsible for the specific way in which Ferabol is totally dependent on pH for absorption. In the gastric (stomach) environment, Ferabol is insoluble, and hence does not effect the mucosa that line the stomach as other Iron compounds do. Iron protein succinylate, with a concentration of 5% iron, is insoluble under gastric (acid) conditions, and is soluble under intestinal (neutral) conditions, where the iron is liberated for rapid and safe absorption.
